Hey Ivan, long time no speakie…
I wanted to hit you up and let you know that I helped IBM build a Green Data Center here in Boulder and made a mirrored version of it out in Second Life. Its pretty neat (virtually) and you can find it via searching for IBM in the Second Life search tools.
It seems that even the big boys are pushing for green technologies, and that should make us all (gulp) breath a little easier (sic).
Talk to you…
Wow, great to hear from you man! That’s very cool you ended up at IBM helping build a Green Data Center.
Well I have worked with a lot of companies going green.
I got certified as an IBM Green Architect while working on that project, however the work has just begun…
And the Ice is still melting.
We designed the physical side to be as energy efficient as possible, using regenerative technologies and using heat and thermal mapping tuned the DC to best re-use its waste. (You have to check out those thermal heat exchangers and MMT units… they are cool)
As for the virtual side we created a playground/theme park to examine some of the technologies we used in the physical side in addition to making more life-cycle related presentations for your viewing pleasure.
Here are some links: I helped with heat and thermal mapping for the physical parts, and did almost all the conceptualization for the virtual side and was one of the approvers for all the virtual assets.
